I just created a metric iFeature a couple of nights ago in Inventor 2013 SP2 for our Autodesk Manufacturing Academy, and it placed in metric as well, in a metric part. The video will be posted in a few weeks (it's part of a larger video package). Also, you can align the sketch with points in the iFeature, this would get close, but it wouldn't quite be as quick as the sheet metal punch is. Another thought, is to place on iFeature (by whatever means works, and then pattern the iFeature, instead of patterning points and trying to place the iFeature on multiple points. Delete 2.

As you know there is center mark needed when creating sheet metal ifeature, which is used to position the iFeature when placement. Please see the attached part as reference. After an iFeautre is placed, then what we can do is just to edit the iFeature(change the inputs) but can't switch the definition(.ide) file, so if your requirement is to 'replace' an existing iFeature, you need to delete the existing iFeature and place a new one. Autodesk Inventor has some great tools for creating Features such as Fillets, Chamfers and Holes. But what if you want to create a more complicated re-usable Feature?

… Extruded holes are very common in sheet metal processing. Inventor doesn’t provide a punch tool for this work in its catalog. It’s not difficult to generate an iFeature and use it as Punch Tool for extruded holes. The procedures described here are highly inspired by the turorial on Widom Associates’ website: iFeatures and Punches. iFeature of Inventor can be seen as a file which contains The Punch Tool “Square Emboss” comes with Inventor can only make sharp-edged forms. With little effort we can create a iFeature which contains the size parameter for the round fillets. The method I used is basically the same in the page “iFeature – Extruded Hole“.
